A recent trip to Portsmouth Harbour as part of brainstorm week at work.
I thought this was my first time to the coastal town but my mom corrected me that I have visited before when I was really little which is news to me! It was quite a desolate feeling place, but maybe that was due to keeping to the coast, and it being the middle of February. I can imagine it full of half naked beach bodies, striped deck chairs and children screaming at their parents to let them play on the penny slots in the summer months.
It was actually a lovely day getting out of London and breathing in the fresh sea air for a few hours, it definitely confirmed that I would love to live by the coast should I ever retire. It just feels incredibly relaxing and encourages a slower pace of life, so I've already made plans that when I reach the age that car rental companies will allow me to borrow their cars, Sam and I are going to make the most of the British coast. There's so many beautiful places in the UK and sometimes I think we're too quick to wish we were away in Barcelona or New York, but why not be a tourist in your own country?
It also confirmed some of my goals for the year in that, as I said previous, to enjoy slowing down and that it's as much about the journey as it is the end goal. I want to make sure this year has a lot of reminders of that, to get out, take photos, document life and just do what makes you happy.
